Democracy's future is being built right now, in our communities, by creators with the courage to tell new stories about who we are and who we can become together.
We're not just organizing a forum. We're celebrating local imagination, civic joy, expansive storytelling and our shared futures. We're building the infrastructure that connects creators with civic institutions—creating lasting partnerships that strengthen democracy through creative community building.
Connect artists, storytellers, and innovators with platforms to amplify their voices and impact their communities.
Transform public libraries into vibrant hubs of democratic engagement and creative expression.
Foster civic participation through creative programming that brings communities together around shared values.

Creative workshops, performances, and community dialogues
Democracy is not just about voting. It's about participating, creating, and building together.— The Creators for Democracy Movement
The inaugural Creators for Democracy forum at MLK Library. Two days of celebration, connection, and creative civic leadership that proves libraries are test kitchens for democratic imagination.
We're identifying 8-10 DC-based creators who strengthen democracy through their storytelling—on TikTok, YouTube, Substack, and beyond. Each receives meaningful stipends and becomes part of a national network of civic media leaders.
Daytime showcases at neighborhood branches highlight creators' work and skills. Evening forums at the MLK flagship bring the community together with music, dialogue, and celebration of the movement leaders advancing democratic renewal.
This isn't a one-time event. We're connecting creators to library resources, facilitating platform partnerships with TikTok, YouTube, Patreon, and more—and creating a model that positions MLK Library as a national civic innovation hub.
As America marks 250 years since the Declaration of Independence, we're asking: What if public libraries became test kitchens for civic imagination, possibility, and joy? DC shows what's possible.
